“Black Hole” are we to politically correct??

11 July 2008 3,454 views 2 Comments

In a recent meeting of elected officials the discussion of a paperwork back log was presented.  One of the (white) commissioners pointed out that the office was such an administrative mess that it was almost like a “black hole” where papers were lost and never found.  An African American commissioner responded “EXCUSE ME, It’s a white hole.”  Later in the discussion an apology was requested for the “racially insensitive remarks.”  Take a look at the video and tell me if you think it’s offensive?

The term “black hole” has been a part of the American language for quite some time. Granted the language is charged with racially insensitive words and phrases. However, this representative can not be held responsible for that. He did not invent the language. American English has been a perpertrator of racism for as long as we have been here.

Get real!! When will our “leaders” hear the voices of the communities and stop playing games and focus on the real issues?
