Prop 8 forcing Queen Latifah out of the closet?

Rumors are circulating, following Wanda Sykes’ very public show of support for the gay and lesbian community last week, that several large advocacy groups are “demanding” that Queen Latifah publicly acknowledge her sexual orientation.  More then one source states that some groups are even going so far as threatening to boycott Queen Latifah if she doesn’t acknowledge her longtime lover (and suspected fiance) at the People’s Choice Awards in January.  Thus far there has been no comment from Queen Latifah.  Although Queen Latifah’s sexual orientation could be the worst kept secret in hollywood, some feel that a public “outing” will add more support to the Gay and Lesbian civil rights struggle.

Personally I have been an advocate for live and let live.  It is my belief that my heterosexual lifestyle is not impacted in anyway by supporting the right of gay and lesbian individuals to seek the same love that I seek with the same legal benefits that I will enjoy.  However, if in fact the rumor of pressure is true then I am absolutely opposed to it.  How can you on one hand ask people to respect your right to make decisions for yourself and live your life without intrusion while forcing someone else to move at your pace?  It doesn’t make sense to me and potentially creates division within their own movement.

The Gay Rights community tends to self destruct every couple of years and it looks like they are about to do it again. Remember Act Up?

Let the ashes fall where they may. I feel sorry for anybody who gets “outed” and maybe it is time for the LGBT community to deal with their own radical fringe. This is their struggle. Who knows. Queen Latifah may have something for them. She may be the wrong one to mess with. Lol.

That community has been doing some really ugly things since Prop 8. Not just outing people but sending “white pwder packages” to Mormon churches and disrupting Black church services with loud chanting and lewd behavior etc. This is not gonna win them any support. They will turn off the masses as usual.
